Privacy Policy

FTC/GDPR/ALL THAT CRAZY NONSENSE:

Guys the rules & regulations out these days are bananas. Short version: I am not making secret files on any of you, not doing anything shady. I blog. I teach classes. If you’ve got a question, problem, want to be removed, etc… email me. Craftwithmay @ gmail.com If you enter your info like name or email, I might see it. I don’t share with anyone else. Here’s the long version…

What personal data we collect and why we collect it

By default WordPress does not collect any personal data about visitors, and only collects the data shown on the User Profile screen from registered users. Email address, name… I really do my best to not personally ‘collect’ data on any of you lovelies. I use and trust MailChimp (email lists), PayPal (class fees), and WordPress (this blog)

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.  An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Contact forms
Because some of you have asked to be able to subscribe via email, there is that option + my newsletter and is through MailChimp who assures me they are GDPR compliant and not sharing your info with anyone else (except me, and I really don’t see it – I just make & send emails to lists you’ve signed up for.

Cookies
If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you have an account and you log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

Embedded content from other websites
Suggested text: Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Analytics
In this subsection you should note what analytics package you use, how users can opt out of analytics tracking, and a link to your analytics provider’s privacy policy, if any.

By default WordPress does not collect any analytics data. However, many web hosting accounts collect some anonymous analytics data. You may also have installed a WordPress plugin that provides analytics services. In that case, add information from that plugin here.

Who we share your data with
By default WordPress does not share any personal data with anyone, and neither do I! If you sign up for a newsletter or class, MailChimp will know your information that you use. If you purchase an online class, you’ll be doing so via PayPal and they’d have your information especially if you have an account with them.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data
If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where we send your data
Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service called akismet.

How we protect your data
I use WordPress, PayPal, Google Analytics, and MailChimp because I trust these companies to safeguard and handle information. I don’t want to mess anything up for anyone, obviously! That is how I’m keeping it safe around here as best as I can/know how.

If that wasn’t enough…

FTC likes bloggers to disclose when they get free stuff, when they get paid, basically to be honest. Well you can ask me anything (except my weight) and I’ll give you an honest answer so if you have questions don’t hesitate to ask. Because I’m all about being upfront & honest so you should know:

I use what I love. Recommend only what I believe in. Whether it’s paid for, free, or sponsored you should know I am only talking up the good stuff that I personally love, use, and suggest. I’m known for being blunt and honest – I am just upfront I learned a long time ago it is the happiest way to live. So…

I’ve been working in the craft industry for a long time. I’ve worked with a lot of people and for a lot of companies. Some of the brands you see featured have sent me product, others have never heard of me. Ladies & gents, I only use stuff I LIKE, and I don’t sell ad space or do random paid posts here on my blog. Anything you see here is because I wanted it here. I currently work with Brother International, but also do guest appearances on blogs/sites on occasion and feature products sent to me by all kinds of crafty companies.

Finally, I have affiliate links on my website that, should you use one and make a purchase, could result in my getting a small % of what you spent. Simon Says Stamp, Amazon, Ellen Hutson, Scrapbook.com, and modcloth.com are the currently active stores I have affiliation with. All stores I use, like, and recommend too. It’s how I support this site (hosting & give aways & such aren’t free, you know! Not to mention the time I put into this site…) and costs you nothing. It makes it possible for me to share more content and do more than ever here, so THANK YOU to those who use the links!

Now just to really be clear (haha) here’s some legal-speak:

Disclosure of Material Connection: May Flaum Designs, LLC,  has a marketing connection to a brand, topic or product herein. Through the use of affiliate links contained herein, May Flaum Designs, LLC may collect fees from purchases made. This disclosure is being made in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255: “Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising”.
